Edmonton Soup Sisters

Soup Sisters and Broth Brothers Edmonton is 'souper' excited to announce our partnership with our new culinary partner GET COOKING. We proudly support women, childen and youth in crisis by delivering 'Hug in a Bowl' to WIN House and YESS. (Youth Emergency Shelter Society)

GET COOKING is a beautiful culinary school in the heart of Edmonton’s downtown. Owner Kathryn Joel is excited to offer her cooking school for our soup-making events as she understands full well the power of soup and giving. In keeping with her philosophy to use local ingredients to create globally inspired cuisine we will 'keep the soup flowing' to families in crisis in Edmonton.

Edmonton Women's Shelter Ltd. known as WIN House, is a non-profit agency operating three shelters, WIN House I, WIN House II, and WIN House III.

All 3 WIN Houses are delighted by this opportunity to receive gifts of nourishing food for women and children that need immediate safety and practical necessities. This demonstration of support by Soup Sisters and GET COOKING will give women and children the knowledge that their community stands with them in a time of crisis as they access resources in order to better their circumstances. (Sandra Danco, Past Executive Director).

YESS (Youth Emergency Shelter Society) has been providing shelter, safety and hope to homeless and at-risk youth since 1982. Since its beginnings as a single short-term emergency dorm, the agency has grown exponentially. YESS currently offers a full range of short-and-long-term accommodation options, counselling for youth and families in crisis, and support for struggling teens to build their skills and take control of their lives. The organization serves an average of 2000 young people each year, empowering them to achieve independence, confidence, and stability.

Soup Sisters and Broth Brothers charges a participation fee of $65 per person to cover the expenses of ingredients for soup, the venue, equipment, a chef or professional facilitator, and charitable operations. This ensures that the finest ingredients possible are used every time for the soups we provide to women, children and youth. Events are social evenings with lively conversation, chopping, laughter and warm kitchen camaraderie that culminate in a simple, sit-down supper of soup, salad, bread and wine for all participants. Each event produces approximately 150-250 servings of fresh soup that sustains your local shelter with nourishing and nurturing soup each month.

Private corporate team-building events are $95 per person and a partial tax receipt is provided upon request.
